Toivola Juhannus Bonfire Fundraising Events Coming Up!

Toivola Juhannus Kokko at FinnFest 2013!

One of the highlights of FinnFest will be the traditional celebration of Juhannus, or the Finnish Midsummer. Observed in the Copper Country community of Toivola since the time of settlement in the 1890s, the Juhannus kokko (midsummer bonfire) is something that Finns worldwide recognize. Toivola is one of several local communities that will offer traditional Midsummer celebrations during FinnFest, and they are hard at work raising the funds to do it! Come out and support their efforts at one of the upcoming fundraisers listed below:

June 6: Toivola Community members will be at EconoFoods in Houghton, bagging groceries and collecting receipts from shoppers. They will receive a percentage of the receipt totals from those gathered, so it's an easy way to help them!

June 23: Come out to Agate Beach in Toivola for the 2012 Juhannus celebration!

August 4-5: Agate Beach Music Jamboree in Toivola. Come for the music and good times- concessions sales will go toward the 2013 Juhannus fundraising efforts!

August 19: Toivola Volunteer Fire Department Fun Day. Info TBA.

October 3: Bake Sale at Superior National Bank in Hancock.

Toivola's Juhannus happens each year due to the hard work of the Toivola Volunteer Fire Department, the Toivola Senior Citizens group, and the community of Toivola. Let's help them make their 2013 kokko unforgettable!
